What I Read in September 2023

Hi, friends! I have no idea where September went because now it’s the first weekend of October?! Better late than never per typical Ju fashion, here are four books I read last month: FOUR AUNTIES AND A WEDDING by Jesse Q. Sutanto – 3.5 stars I listened to this on audio while I was doing last minute things the few days. leading up to my wedding, which definitely added to my experience (is this why people ask for seasonal book recommendations?!). Four Aunties and a Wedding is a sequel to Dial A for Aunties and follows the same set of characters, Meddy and her mom and aunties–this time for Meddy’s…

What I Read in August 2023

Hi, friends! It’s September 2nd, which means it’s the day before my wedding(!!!!) day. I seriously underestimated how occupied my brain and time would be the last few weeks leading up to the wedding. My intention was to publish this blog way earlier but clearly that never happened… So this monthly roundup will be a little bit more abbreviated than usual. I still wanted to get it up because I’ve been keeping up with these monthly book posts for almost four years (since January 2020) and I didn’t want to break the streak haha. I also had a pretty solid reading month in a while too! THE WOMEN by Kristin…

What I Read in July 2023

Hi, friends! Back with my monthly reading wrap-up! The summer has been flying by as 2023 has been all year, especially now that we’re only a month out from our wedding. PAGEBOY by Elliot Page – 3.5 stars I got lucky with my Libby hold an didn’t have to wait long to listen to Elliot Pages’s memoir Pageboy! Elliot Page was another actor whose life I didn’t know much but besides his queer identity and gender transition. Page opens up quite a bit his book in a way that reminded me of Pamela Anderson’s book. I appreciated the opportunity to listen to Elliot Page share his story but wanted a…

What I Read in June 2023

Hi, friends! I can’t believe we’re officially halfway through 2023!!! Life keeps coming at me, and I’m sure it is for you too. Hope you’re taking care of yourself, whatever that looks like. Here’s everything I read in June: LADY TAN’S CIRCLE OF WOMEN by Lisa See – 4.5 stars Inspired by real-life Lady Tan Yunxian from the 15th-century China, Lisa See shares with us another captivating story about strong women. Born into an elite family, the expectations set for Yunxian is to become a proper lady, marry a man from a respectable family that is chosen for her, and birth a son (or multiple) to continue the family line…

What I Read in May 2023

Hi friends! Now that it’s June, it’s finally feeling like spring in North Carolina. May was not my favorite reading month but I did cross of a couple of newer releases that had been on my TBR! PINEAPPLE STREET by Jenny Jackson – 3.5 stars I had pretty high hopes for Pineapple Street based on some of the rave reviews I’ve been seeing on the Internet. While it is not as offensively bad as Every Summer After, I don’t get the hype. Pineapple Street is about the three young women in Stockton family: the eldest child Darley gave up her career and trust fund money to raise a normal family…
