What I Read in November 2022

Happy December, friends! Per usual, I’m a few days into the month before sharing what I read last month. 😉 I had another prolific reading month largely thanks to audiobooks. Here’s everything I read in November: VIOLETA by Isabel Allende – 3 stars After reading Isabel Allende’s The House of Spirits last year, I had been looking forward to her 2022 release Violeta. Like many of Allende’s works, Violeta is expansive and ambitious, spanning one hundred years of Violeta’s life. Despite Violeta’s first-person narrative, I lost interest towards the second half of the book (though that could be attributed to the length of the book as it’s a bit longer…

What I Read in October 2022

Happy November, friends! I’m a few days late but I finally got around to writing this post. As always, better late than never. 😉 EVERYTHING I KNOW ABOUT LOVE by Dolly Alderton – 3.5 stars Dolly Alderton is a British freelance writer, and her memoir Everything I Know About Love is a book about growing up and all kinds go love. Some chapters are funny (I listened to this on audiobook and my partner was giggling and laughing out loud while he was around); some are emotional and heartwarming. Overall, I enjoyed it but I was a bit bored and mostly wanted it to be done towards the end (it…

What I Read in September 2022

Happy Fall, friends! For some reason, I always think of fall as the season of reading. I’ve been spending more time reading at home which has been nice. Here’s what I read in September: FIONA AND JANE by Jean Chen Ho – 4 stars Fiona and Jane have been best friends since second grade and while they change and drift apart through college years and adulthood, they remain present in each other’s lives and minds. Fiona and Jane is told in alternating POVs from Fiona and Jane. Some of the stories are about their friendship; some are about respective families/lives at the time. The narrative jumps a few years here…

What I Read in August 2022

Happy September, friends! I said this in last month’s book review post too but I have been reading more recently because that seems to be what I need from myself these days. I read 12 books in August which I think is a record for me, probably since I was in elementary school haha. I’ve been listening to audiobooks nonstop which is helping me read a lot more! I’ve noted all the books I listened to on audio in my reviews: THE BEST WE COULD DO by Thi Bui – 4 stars The Best We Could Do begins with the author giving birth, an event which prompts her to reflect…

What I Read in July 2022 (+ Life & Reading Updates)

Hi, friends! I shared a little bit on Instagram last month but I’m struggling a little bit which is the reason behind the lack of content recently from me across the board. While I’ve retreated from social media, I’ve been reading a little bit more both because it’s a safe and comfortable space for me and because I’ve been on an audiobook kick! I do my best to not think about the number of books I’m reading each month (if I do, I find myself rushing through books to finish it as quickly and move onto the next one) and I was shocked to realize I read nine books this…
