What to Do in Charleston, SC

Hi, friends! After my recent trip to Charleston, I wanted to share a list of things to do (besides eating) while visiting Charleston because after two trips to the city, I am an expert. Just kidding. This post is in no way original but I hope my experiences and opinions help you in building your itinerary. Take a Picture with Pineapple Fountain Considering pineapples are symbols of hospitality and wealth often associated with Charleston, the Pineapple Fountain is pretty iconic. Snap some photos with the famous pineapple! Your kiddos (or yourself?!) can play in the fountain! You can even get married at the fountain, it turns out! Visit Rainbow Row…

What I Read in May 2021

Happy Pride month, friends! May was sort of all over the place for me, reading-wise. I didn’t read as much though that could be due to work being busier than before. I picked up a couple of books during my recent trip to Charleston that I am excited to read so I hope I get to read more in June. Here’s everything I read last month: CASTE: THE ORIGINS OF OUR DISCONTENTS by Isabel Wilkerson – 4.5 stars The Warmth of Other Suns was one of my favorites reads from 2020 so I had been looking forward to reading Caste! In Caste, Wilkerson draws parallels between the unofficial unspoken social…

    Durham Date Night: M Tempura

Hi, friends! I received a blog post request for date night ideas, and I thought it’d be fun to turn it into a series. There are quite a few places on Alex and I’s list (including Gocciolina, Cucciolo Osteria, and MC Restaurant) so I hope to share our experiences with you as we cross them off our list. For the first post of the series, I am writing about our most recent date night at M Tempura, which was the last of the M Restaurants for us to try! If you are not yet familiar, there are four “M Restaurants” in downtown Durham: M Sushi, M Kokko, M Tempura, and…

My Favorite Books by Asian Authors

Hi, friend! In honor of AAPI month, I am sharing some of my favorite books by Asian authors. Every book on this list was a five-star read for me! Of course, this is not an exhaustive list—there are many books by Asian authors I have yet to read and want to read. If you have a favorite book by an Asian author you don’t see on this list, please share with me! I would love to add it to my TBR list. 🥰 DEAR AMERICA: NOTES OF AN UNDOCUMENTED CITIZEN by Jose Antonio Vargas While I vaguely knew Jose Antonio Vargas as an undocumented journalist who “came out” online, I…

What I Read in April 2021

I haven’t posted any in the month of April but I have been meaning to move my website to WordPress.org (from WordPress.com) and I didn’t want to write more blog posts until I was done with the migration. I was able to move my website after a couple of attempts on the last day of April. Now that the whole website migration is behind me, I am excited to write and share more posts! Since it is now May, I am starting with a book post for the month of April. Happy reading! GIRL, WOMAN, OTHER by Bernardine Evaristo – 4.5 stars Girl, Woman, Other follows the lives of twelve…
