Beach Week, Year 2!
Hi, friends! I’m recapping our second ever beach week today (before August ends)! Last year was our inaugural beach week which we split between Beaufort and the Outer Banks. Since we did a day trip to Beaufort in June for the Old Homes Tour, this year’s beach week was all in the Outer Banks.

We stayed in Manteo for the Outer Banks portion of the inaugural beach week last year but we wanted to be more central this time around. We found a tiny home called The Beach Palette in Kitty Hawk, only a few blocks from the beach (maybe a 10-minute walk?). Not only was The Beach Palette so cute and so clean, it is probably the most thoughtfully out Airbnb we have ever stayed at! The hosts Carolina and Brian furnished the tiny house with everything you could possibly need while you’re there/in the Outer Banks.

Pictured above is the screened-in back porch at The Beach Palette. We read out here in the mornings with our coffees and it was perfect! We had a lovely stay and would stay here again if it’s just the two of us traveling to the Outer Banks.

While I became a full Outer Banks covert after this year’s trip (which was my second time in the Outer Banks), there were certain favorites from last year we decided to repeat. Thus, our very first meal was at I Got Your Crabs where we had oysters, crabs, and shrimp, followed by Hokey Pokey ice cream at the KEYZ New Zealand Ice Cream. I will say we had the Hokey Pokey mixed in with the cream in addition to having it as a topping last year (you can see the difference in color), and I think that is definitely the move!!

We did a number of new-to-us things as well, one of which was checking out Duck’s Cottage Coffee & Books, the sister property of Manteo’s Downtown Books. It was more of a coffee shop with a side of books and without a ton of eating but the coffee was great and we strolled around the rest of Duck’s Waterfront Shops with our coffees afterwards.

We first learned about The Lost Colony when we went on a ghost tour last year in Manteo so this was tentatively on our itinerary (tentatively because nothing was officially on our itinerary before the start of the trip haha). It is an outdoor play about the first (unsuccessful) English colony in what is now the outer Banks. The tickets were not badly priced, and it was a solid entertainment.

Another Outer Banks classic we crossed off our list this time was the Wright Brothers National Memorial (because you know, #FirstInFlight). The Visit Center and Museum was a wealth of information, and I learned a lot (because I knew nothing before!).

I am officially obsessed with the Outer Banks now, and we are already hoping to return next year. Until next year’s beach week!
