What I Read in August 2021

Happy September, friends! This week at work, I accidentally typed 2021 for a future date before correcting it to 2022 and was hit by the reality that 2021 is flying by. Here’s everything I read in August. POPISHO by Leone Ross – 4 stars I picked up Popisho while visiting Charleston. I knew nothing about the book but the cover art design grabbed my attention. In the world of Popisho, everyone is born with cors, magical talent gifted by the gods. Though the book only spans just about a day, it covers quite a bit of story. It begins by introducing Xavier Redchoose, the macaenus of the generation which means…

    Monthly Mumbles #5

Here’s a roundup of everything in the last month or so! A lot of “firsts” and a lot of Sujung happened haha. Because I have been Yelping since I graduated from college back in 2016, the local Yelp community feels like a big part of my life. While I have been loving virtual events over the last year, I was ecstatic about the last month’s first in-person Yelp event since February/March 2020. I had so much fun seeing old and new faces! I finally got to meet my IG friend Samantha from samij_eats_ so we had to document it! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Alex is a huge concert-goer and we used to go…

    Durham Date Night: Gocciolina

Gocciolina has been on my list of restaurants to try basically since I moved to Durham four years ago, and I finally crossed it off the list this weekend! If you haven’t heard of Gocciolina, it’s an Italian restaurant located at an unassuming strip mall in North Durham. They are open for dinner only Tuesday through Sunday. Alex and I were able to make a reservation for Friday dinner earlier in the week though there were limited time slots left. When you make reservations, you can choose from dining room, lounge, or patio. We sat outside and felt comfortable with the spacing between the tables. It’s peak mosquito season though…

    Hill House Nap Dress Review

If you follow me on Instagram or have seen me in real life in the last several months, you know I have been living in my Nap Dresses! Quite a few of you have asked for my thoughts on the Nap Dress, and I put together this review/guide post. Their next drop (Trellis coming back!) is this Friday at 12pm EST so mark your calendar! I only own the Ellie Nap Dresses so my review will only be on that specific style. IS IT WORTH IT? WHAT ARE THE DRESSES LIKE? ( SIZING + FABRIC) Priced at $125, the Nap Dress is not the most affordable dress out there. With…

What I Read in July 2021

Happy August 1st, friends! I was hoping to squeeze in another book before the end of July but I am still working on it haha. Here’s everything I read in July. THE BOOK OF LOST NAMES by Kristin Harmel – 4 stars Set in France during WWII, The Book of Lost Names follows Eva, a France-born Polish Jew, who finds herself part of the Resistance. While trying to escape for Switzerland, she learns her artistic talents make her a great forger and decides to stay for a while to help the Resistance. As she creates fake documents for people to escape from Nazis, she records their names in โ€œThe Book…
