Monthly Mumbles 2022.10.31

Happy last day of October, friends! Fall has always been my favorite season—the best weather (we get to LAYER again), holidays are approaching, and food is even more abundant. Fall also seems to be the start of a busy season which explains why it’s already November. Here are some snapshots form October which kept me busy:

Well, this is technically from end of September but since I wrote the last Monthly Mumbles on September 25th, I had to include it here! My mom went to Korea for the first time in about five years—I dropped her off at the airport which always leaves me all emotional and bittersweet.

While my mom was in Korea, I spent a few days at my brother’s place to keep him and my mom’s dog Yuri company (mostly Yuri lol) and I snapped these adorable photos of Yuri so I had to share and document on the Internet, of course! Sharing one more—because I can’t help it!

As a Korean person, I’ve been eating rice topped with a fried egg as long as I have lived. The classic version of Korean egg and rice bowl only takes a fried egg, soy sauce, sesame oil, and toasted sesame seeds. Recently, I have been changing it up a little bit so I don’t get sick of it. Sometimes, I fry the egg in chili oil or top it generously with Trader Joe’s Bomba Sauce, both of which I highly recommend!!

Sadly, Saint James closed their doors last month but thankfully, I got to squeeze in two more visits in October! I’m already missing the oyster happy hour and their fried seafood platter. 🥺 (I’m wearing a matching black watch headband and nap dress dupe from J. Crew Factory.)

La Recette Patisserie opened their store this month, and I couldn’t be more excited or happier! I had been following their Instagram for a few years, ever since Alex showed me a photo of a unicorn cake they had made (here’s one!) so I almost feel like I’ve been part of their journey?! Anyways, go try all of their pastries and coffee seriously. Pictured below is the best almond croissant I have ever had!

There was a Salem gathering in October at a local alum’s house. It is an annual event but this was on myself second time going to one of these events since I graduated back in 2016. I had so much fun though! It was nice seeing some faces I hadn’t seen in a while (some since I was in college).

Forgive this awkward selfie–I was probably high off of an exercise class. After MONTHS of not exercising regularly and cancelling my YMCA membership, I’ve finally talked myself into singing up for a barre studio membership. It’s quite pricey (at least for me; I’m paying 3x what I paid at the Y) but I have been loving it and am exercising more! I went to 11 classes in October, which I’m very proud of. I also might’ve taken this as an opportunity to get some new workout clothes from Girlfriend Collective. 👀

Getting invited to new restaurant openings is a huge perk of blogging, especially so when I get to bring a plus one! BB’s Crispy Chicken opened a new location in Cary, and I went to their soft opening with my sister Jiyoung who had never tried BB’s before. Both of our favorites, hands down, were the dunkers–we even got a second order!

Somehow, Alex and I managed to make it to the fair this year! Like last year, we went on a weeknight which we like since it’s a bit slower. I might or might not have brought in a tripod to take this photo.

A photo evidence of the first football game I enjoyed watching (LOL) but really Clemson vs Syracuse game was the most fun football game I’ve gone to! We even got to rush the field! (I’m wearing my new purple gingham dress from Shiny by Nature)

Our friends Sree and Sri from That Vegetarian Couple are expecting their first baby, and we got to celebrate it! They had the most perfect baby shower at Cheeni, complete with ice cream flights from Andia’s.

TWO Salem gatherings in one month really made my heart happy! A couple of my classmates from Salem and I met up for a wine night at Cru Wine Bar at Fenton (on the busiest Wednesday, I swear) and we just chatted all evening. Really though, we were still talking in the parking lot at 11:30pm, which is way past my bedtime. 😂

Mezcalito opened their Durham location, which I’m obsessed with. I was lucky to be invited to the soft opening but I went back the next week with my sister Jiyoung and her husband Daniel.

After a month in Korea (because she forgot her green card so missed her original return flight and had to wait for us to mail it to her), my mom is back in the US! Her flight to RDU got delayed from midnight to middle of the night but she came back just in time for her birthday weekend haha.

Can you believe this is Alex and I’s first couple costume? Neither of us is a huge Halloween person (we’re Christmas people!!!), and these were pretty last minute costumes. I have had my dress for years and have been dressing up as Wednesday Addams for years, and Alex ordered his shirt from Amazon earlier this week. This was fun though since we ended up going two two Halloween Christmas parties in one night (I still need more sleep lol)!

My mom’s birthday was yesterday, and we surprised her with an afternoon tea at the Fearrington Village! She had gone to a wedding there a few years ago and raved about how stunning and beautiful everything was. She loved the afternoon tea at Sugar Magnolia Cafe we did for her birthday last year, so I made a tea reservation at Fearrington a few months ago and we spent the afternoon sipping tea and exploring Fearrington Village. I want to share more about the tea in another post, hopefully in the next week or two.

Last but not least, I was on the cover of Durham Magazine, along with my blogger friend Joy (from @joyeatsworld)! This was a fun project to be a part of, and I think it introduced me to a lot of new people. We didn’t know we were going to be on the cover though so that was a fun surprise! I used it as a fun fact at a work meeting earlier this month. 😉
