How Last Week Went

While nothing extraordinary happened, last week was a good one! Maybe because it was an ordinary one. Most of Q1 had been hard for me so having a solidly medium week was almost like a high?! The longer days are definitely helping with my mental health too.

What I’m Looking Forward to This Week

I’m having a short work week and heading up to DC for a quick getaway! You know four-day work weeks are my favorite and I am very much excited to eat all of the food.

THURSDAY

I got to attend a cake making class with La Recette Patisserie, and it was one of those events/gatherings that brought me so much joy! I had been following La Recette Patisserie on social media for a while and Alex had actually gotten a pastry box from them before so I knew that we were in for a treat. From seeing some familiar faces to meeting Djamila to decorating my own cake for the first time, I had a blast! I brought home some leftovers and Alex and I thoroughly enjoyed eating every single thing.

FRIDAY

We went to Third Friday in downtown Durham for the first time since the pandemic began! It’s essentially a gallery hop where several gallery and art spaces in downtown open a bit later for the public to come and browse. We hadn’t been out on a Friday night in a LONG time so it was fun to see downtown bustling with people. Ending the evening at Alley Twenty Six was the cherry on top (I still need to try their burger!).

SATURDAY

Saturday was one of those laziest weekend days ever and it was the best. I read a bit and cleaned the kitchen (it needed a cleaning really badly) but I just hung around the house the rest of the day. That is until the surprise dinner date Alex had planned! Well, I knew that were were going on a date but WHERE we were going was a surprise until we pulled into the parking lot though I had a good guess and I was right. 😉

We went to Vin Rouge in downtown Durham (we regularly “commute” to downtown Durham lol) for the first time and LOVED it. We had the escargots, fish special of the day, and NY strip with red wine and let me tell you, I don’t even like steak but I LOVED their steak?! The ambiance and service was absolutely fantastic too.

SUNDAY

Pineapple Sol, another local business I had been following, recently opened their restaurant in Cary. I was invited to their sneak peak event but missed their grand openings so I had been meaning to head over there for a meal! Since they are one of two Triangle businesses I know that offer coffee flights, we decided to brunch there today. I must say that the Sunny Benny surprised me! But ya girl loves tots so… I was intimidated by Lavender Honeycomb Pancakes but I think I want to try those next time.
